Back when I was in my first round of seminary studies, I was privileged to be taught and mentored by Miriam Therese Winter – MT, we called her. A self- proclaimed radical feminist; a Medical Mission Sister who had traveled the globe serving the poor; a musician and songwriter; author and teacher. I learned much about gratitude and compassion under her tutelage. She was, around that time, working on a book entitled, Paradoxology: Spirituality in a Quantum Universe. This spring I came across a book entitled, “When One Religion Isn’t Enough: The Lives of Spiritually Fluid People” by Duane R. Bidwell, a professor of practical theology, spiritual care, and counseling at Claremont School of Theology. It follows the path of the author and others who have taken up the practices of more than one tradition. He is both Buddhist and Christian. I was interested because I was thinking about Unitarian Universalism and our six sources; how we say that we draw from the wisdom of each; and I was wanting to compare what that meant juxtaposed alongside the practice of more than one religion. UUMH Chatham – July 12, 2020 – “Letting Go – Holding On” – Rev. Tracy Johnson It was a week or so ago and there I was, faced with a dilemma that I hadn’t expected or intended, but nonetheless, smack in the middle of it. I have been reaching out to UUMH members and friends to introduce myself and to have a little chat to get to know you all a bit better. I received a call back with an invitation to talk over lunch and I could not have been more delighted - an opportunity to follow through on my plan.
