February 28 Want What You Have Rev. Edmund Robinson
This is the first in a series of three reflections for Lent on the late Forrest Church’s simple mantra for living, “Want what you have, be who you are, do what you can.” The Buddha’s Second Noble Truth is that the root of suffering is craving and clinging. The pursuit of happiness, according to the Declaration of Independence, is one of the basic rights of all people. How can our pursuit of happiness lead to our unhappiness?
This week is also New Member Sunday – We will introduce, welcome, and celebrate those who have joined the church in the last few months. The Membership Committee will put on a breakfast before the service for the new members.
March 7 “Be Who You Are” Rev. Edmund Robinson
The second part of the late Forrest Church’s mantra for living calls us to claim our base identity. Yet the rule is much easier to state than to apply. For we are not one thing, but bundles of properties, often
inconsistent with one another. How do we discern who we are? How do we change and grow?
March 14 “Do What You Can” Rev. Edmund Robinson
The third part of Dr. Church’s mantra calls for us to act to change the world for the better, to relieve suffering and to extend love, with whatever resources are at our disposal. It calls for us to recognize the limits of our abilities.
March 17 St. Patrick's Celebration 4 PM Fleck Room.
We will play some Irish music and sing some Irish songs and light refreshments will be offered. Bring an instrument, song, story or poem and good cheer.
March 21 “The Spirit of Spring” Jake and Elizabeth Avery and DRE Joan McDonald

March 28 “Do Corporations Have Souls?” Rev. Edmund Robinson
The recent Supreme Court case focused on whether corporations have free speech rights, but in the debate on how to reverse that decision, the underlying theological question is whether they have souls, or in terms of our first principle, whether we are bound to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of corporations.
