LEARNING FOR LIFE PROGRAMS

March 2010

February 24    2-4 PM              Fleck Room
Images of Heaven and Hell in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

Heaven or Hell?  Which would you choose for your afterlife if you lived in Medieval Christian Europe?  The architects of the great Romanesque and Gothic Cathedrals made the choice clear.  The great sculptors and painters created images of Heaven and Hell to teach the believers about the afterlife.  Included will be great paintings from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance.

Science and Religion
Tuesday  March 9, 5 – 6:30 PM. In the Fleck Room.

We are moving the ongoing Science and Religion meetings to the second Tuesday of the Month.

In this short video Jill Bolton, a neuroscientist who suffered a stroke several years ago, describes the experience “from the inside” and goes on to interpret her sense of its meaning. Participants will consider the difference between right and left brain and assess Bolton’s argument that attention to the right brain connects us spiritually with others and the world.

Learning for Life
Iran’s Nuclear Program and Regional Stability

Wednesday , March 10, 2 PM. In the Fleck Room

Dr. Abdul Raoof, specialist on the Middle East and Professor Emeritus of Political Science at SUNY  Buffalo, will speak on Iran and domestic and regional factors, which shape the regime’s policy. Does this program constitute a threat to the security of the region and beyond? What are the options for the U.S. and the international community to stem Iran’s armament proliferation? A major option is a comprehensive regional plan to assure stability and security for all regional member states.
